My daughter is usually reserved and doesn't often talk about her classes at school unless I probe her. Like a typical teen, she'll usually say, "It was good, I got an A, it was about Rome,”  -- very brief and short. What I noticed in the weeks she's taken My Steady Voice, was that she was more open to conversation after class, often telling me how she thought she did, how she was surprised at herself and how she did under pressure and in front of her peers, and in general, she seemed like she took away something whether academically or socially from the experience. Her words weren't vague; she was specific and articulate, volunteered more details, and genuinely seemed like she wanted to talk about it. At school, she seems to be more willing to reach out to her teachers to advocate for herself when there is a missing grade in the system or an error -- in the past, she seems like she's nervous or anxious to take action, while these days, it seems like it's not a big deal."

Not only did my daughter learn valuable life lessons, but I believe this course was also enlightening from the Parent perspective. Through conversations with my daughter after class, I was able to get to know her better in ways that I may not have had (how she handles uncomfortable situations, how she shows up when she's had a busy week, her perspective on showing respect to others, how she observes and learns from her peers on the good as well as areas of improvement, how she approaches learning when it isn't mandatory, her present maturity level and values, and what she's proud of at the end of the day.)"
